Remote Console Plug-In Error

0
0

I am getting the most wonderful of all errors and have been unable to resolve it.

Cannot access virtual machine console. The request timed out.

The attempt to acquire a valid session ticket for "Win" took

longer than expected. If this problem persists, contact your

system administrator.

I have tried the advice given in other threads dealing with this error.  The Remote Console works fine from the local account on the host system (after adding the hosts file changes) and it works from a system that connects to the host LAN via a wireless connection on another different subnet (WAN > > Domain LAN > > WiFi LAN > client)

The host is Win2k3 64-bit Member Server in a Win2k3 Domain.  The member systems of the domain are unable to use the remote console from IE7 or FF3.0 (not 3.0.1 yet).

I orginally thought it was an issue with the host server having two different IP addresses... Eth0 is on domain subnet, Eth1 was on seperate subnet isolated via VLAN, but router was routing between VLANS, I;ve stopped that)  NSLOOKUP of the host use to show 192.168.0.10, 192.168.1.10 -- now shows 192.168.0.10

RC manual installation is half working

Hello,

i have been deploying the remote console plugin simply by copying files from one computer to another.

along with the files i was copying the vm shortcut and so far everything was ok

But now i have created a new VM, and simply by updating the vmx path in my shortcut, i cannot connect to the VM.

i copied the vmx path from the vm 'config' dialog box and check the syntax against the old vmx path

it looks like :

".\vmware-vmrc.exe" -h 10.1.150.3 -u user -p pass "[standard] WINDOWS_XP_PRO_SP3_10GB/WINDOWS_XP_PRO_SP3_10GB.vmx"

i get a MKS could not connect to pipe \: error. the system could not find the file specified

if i install the plugin from web interface, i can access the newly created VM and i can access the old VM

if i go back using the manually deployed vmrc, i can NOT access the newly created VM but i still have access to the old VM

something happened during plugin registration that allows the vmrc to connect to the vmx properly.

does anyone have an idea ?

VMware Server Beta 2 RC1 remote console not running

OK, I finally got the remote console plug-in installed on my Windows XP IE 7 but wouldn't you know it... it won't run.

When I select the remote console tab and then click on the screen it just kind of hangs there and locks the IE sesion.

Could this be another securty issue? Or does anyone have any thoughts on where to look for a solution?

Getting the same error messages on the command line (started browser from there to see error messages) in FF2.0.0.16 through 3.0.1.

I do have the plugin installed.  Running on Ubuntu 7.10 with nvidia 169.x drivers on a Quadro FX 550 and Geforce 6200.  I had xinerama running, but turned it off, the only thing I haven't turned off is TwinView which shouldn't make a difference.  I also disabled all plugins in the browser except the vmware one.

I get these errors:

VMWare Server 2 Beta RC2 Console Plug-in not working.

I am moving from Server 1 to Server 2 Beta RC2.

I have installed a new Debian Linux box for the host and have successfuly installed the VMWare software.

The problem I am having is when I use IE to access the console at https://{server-ip-address}:{Port}, select the virtual machine I created and then select the console tab I get the following message..

"The VMware Remote Console Plug-in is not installed or could not be found. Please install the VMware Remote Console Plug-in to access this virtual  machine's console."</font>

I have tried to select the link to install the plug-in several times and everything seems to go through because it tells me my browser needs a restart for the plug-in to be active. But after restarting the browser the same screen comes up.

How can I get the Remote Console Plug-in to install under IE? I have been searching the forums with no luck so far.

Serious Problem with remote console plugin

0
0

Hi folks,

following problem:

Installed RC1 on an Ubutu 8.04-based host-system. VMs seem to start up successfully, but now there is a major problem:

When i click  to open the remote console through the plugin, nothing happens and the plugin fails after some time with "connot connect to the MKS, connection timed out".

So, now, i would like to know:

what is this MKS? What does it do?

and, more important than what MKS is and does: i see a line in /var/log/vmware/hostd.log that looks like "[2008-08-11 11:39:51.898 'PropertyProvider' 1106811216 error] Unexpected fault reading property: vim.ManagedEntity,GetPolicySummary: vmodl.fault.NotSupported".

Does this error message to do with my plugin-problems? If yes, i would like to know what this error msg means, since i didn't find anything on the net about that one.

Greets,

Hendrik

VNC Keyboard layout problem

Hi,

I have a problem with my German keyboard when using a VNC console, the characters that are different form the English layout are messed up.

I can correct this eider by setting the keyboard layout of the client to English, or by doing this on the client where the console runs on.

Booth options are inconvenient, and since it looks like a bug, i hope this can be fixed in the final version.

Cannot access virtual machine console. The request timed out.

I've recently switched a number of machines over from 32bit WinXP to 64bit WinXP and all but one that I have switched over are getting the "Cannot access virtual machine console.  The request timed out." message when trying to access the remote console though the web ui.  Of the 4 machines that I've switched over so far, only one can connect successfully.  All of the 32bit machines continue to connect fine.  I cannot think of anything particular that makes the one 64bit machine that can connect stand out.

I've tried using the IP address instead of the hostname to no avail.  I have this problem in both IE7 and FF 2.0.0.16.  I've tried reinstalling the plugin as well.  All firewalls are turned off.

They are all Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, using pre-installed 64bit WinXP from Dell, if that would matter.  The host OS is Centos 5.2 running Server 2.0 RC1.

Any ideas?

Ryan

Non-standard port for Remote Console

0
0

It is possible to connect to a non-standard port for the VMware Infrastructure Web Access interface (e.g., 8443). However, if I try to launch the remote console add-on application, it fails as it tries to access the server at port 443 (for a Linux host). Is there a way to configure the Remote Console to connect to a non-standard port?

EDIT: I should add that I'm using port-forwarding through a firewall to redirect from external port 8443 to internal 443 on the VMware host server.

Console never seems to start

Using Server 2 RC1 on Win 2003 x64 host...

I've tried connecting via both IE6 and Firefox 3.0.1 and I get into the server but, when I select console and then click in the black as instructed, the console window pops up and never seems to start. See the attached image. I'm sure it's some thing stupid but I can't see my error. any comments? Just seems to hang like this and never actually connects!

The VMware Remote Console Plug-in is not installed

0
0

Early adopter here since I'm running Vista SP1 x64 Enterprise w/IE7   guess I like pain?

I was running Server beta2 and just downloaded Server 2 RC1.  Installed (which uninstalled the old version) making sure to have closed all open applications first.

I get logged into the web console and can control my VM's.  When I try to get to the console for one though I get a message about the old version of the console plug-in is installed and must be uninstalled before I may install the new one.

Problem is that while I can disabled the plug-in I can not delete it.  All my googling says that if the Delete button is greyed out, you must uninstall the software through add\remove software.  Well, the remote software is not listed individually so it appears that the uninstaller left the plug-in in IE during uninstall.

My question is, how might I rip out this plug-in?  Utilities like Toolbarcop don't see it.

Vmware-Server, RC1, Firefox 3.0.1, Remote Console not Compatible

I installed VMware-Server 2.0 RC1 yesterday, and it was working fine.

Then Firefox upgraded it's self t V3.0.1 and now I get the following error.

"VMware Remote Console Plug-in 2.5.0.100265 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.0.1"

Any ideas on how to get around this?

Console fails to connect when host NIC is not connected, doesn't work with IE, and "Error opening the remove virtual machine ... An unexplained error occurred."

0

I have recently battled and resolved an issue using VMWare on a laptop and wanted to share the problems and work arounds.  I would like to find a permanent solution rather than the work arounds I have identified.

The first issue I experienced is the main VMWare Infrastructue Web Access page would not display anything on IE6 but would work fine with FireFox.

I upgraded to IE7.  When I tried to access the Web Access page with IE7 it asked for a client certificate.  If I cancelled this it would give the typical certificate error.  I accept the exception, and it asks for a client certificate again.  I cancel this second request, then it asks for username and password to the laptop.  When I enter this I log in just fine.  After starting the VM I try to launch the Console.  This is when I receive the "Error opening the remote virtual machine ... An unexplained error occurred."

I am able to launch the console with Firefox.

If I try to use the laptop disconnected from a network I get the same "Error opening..." error in Firefox as well.

The only work around for using IE, or using the laptop disconnected from a network is to create a Desktop Shortcut to the Virtual Machine.  When I use this shortcut, it asks for my login information and it works.  In fact, if I close IE and the console and try the console from the Web Access it works as well.  So something about launching it from the shortcut primes something so it works.

I suspect the problem is related to authentication.  I don't understand how Windows, browsers, and VMWare handle authentication to really understand what's going on.  I think the trick with the shortcut is it allows for the credentials ot be asked for again, when trying to launch the console from the Web Access assumes the credentials have already been provided.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on, and how to correct it?

Cheers,

Scott

Guest console windows pop up

0

Ok... I have two guest windows open.  I have dual monitors setup on the host.  I move one guest to one monitor and another guest to the other monitor.  If I maximize on guest to its monitor, when I click on the other guest it automatically maximizes to its screen.  Then, at other times, when I have both guests minimized, I'll click on a different application, and one of the guests will pop up.  Really weird.

I've installed Server 2.0 RC2 with default settings. Trying to connect to server with VMI Client 2.5.0 - have error : login failed due to bad username and password. But I've enterred exactly the same username and password that I've logged on into Windows. Administrators rights is.

In FAQ told : limited testing done ... is possible )

With browser all works fine, VMI Client also works with ESXi 3.5.

Any comments, helps.

Changing the transfer control to host key sequence

0
0

I'm having trouble working out where to change this from CTRL-ALT to something else.

On some of the machines the client runs on (particularly one that also has VMWare Workstation installed, and on another that had VMWare Server 1.0 installed) the key sequence has been set by the users to CTRL-SHIFT-ALT, and this has followed through into the VMWare Remote Console plugin when installed on these machines.  On the machine actually running VMWare Server 2 RC1, the key sequence is CTRL-ALT.

I want to be able to change it to either one or the other, but can't work out where this is done.  Could someone be so kind as to tell me where to make the change.

Thanks,

Vinnie.

Console won't launch from limited access client session

0
0

I set up a limited access role for users which consists of:

Virtual Machine &gt; Interaction &gt; Reset and Console Interaction

Virtual Machine &gt; State &gt; Revert to Snapshot

I created an obfuscated link to the specific VM for the user to access. When I login with my creds at that link I am able to launch the console just fine. When I log in with the test user creds and launch the console I get an error:

Error opening the remote virtual machine &lt;address&gt;:0\64:

  • A connection to the host could not be established.*

I have attempted accessing with the limited account from the server name, IP address, and even localhost from the host itself but always the same error where &lt;address&gt; is the address I'm using (localhost, IP, etc.). What is odd is that I'm using port 8333 for the link but it's reporting port 0 for the console when logged in as that limited user?

Server 2.0 RC1 (101586) running on Windows Server 2k3.

Again: Problem calling the remote console with a pre-configured command-line

0
0

I tried several ways to call the remote console with a pre-configured command-line to avoid typing username and password again and again.

I already read a post about this problem, but did not find a solution. I get the bad username/Pasword message all the time.

This is the command-line text:

"C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\nico\Anwendungsdaten\VMware\VMware Remote Console (Web) 2.5.0.100265\vmware-vmrc.exe" -h mastermind:8333  -u "xxx" -p "yyyy" -M 48 "[test Datastore] Linux Test VM/Linux Test VM.vmx"

I tried  mastermind.xxx.yyy alternatively, but no success.

I don't know exactly where the -M 48 comes from, but I think it came from "Generate Virtual Machine Shortcut"; actually I don't know where to cross-check this parameter.

Under VM configuration, I found "working directory", which says '[test Datastore] Linux Test VM/' and also "Virtual machine Configuration File" pointing to

'[test Datastore] Linux Test VM/Linux Test VM.vmx'

Can you help me ?

Problem with VMware Server

0

After a restart today my Management Console didn't work anymore... To make a long story short:

I upgraded my VMWare Server 2 Beta to  RC2. Everything worked out fine (including vmware-config)...

But my management console isn't working anymore. The usual https-port (8443) doesn't work anymore, it is also disabled in the server.xml of the tomcat. The management console tries to connect to port 88 on my machine, but it doesn't work also. I can login on port 8308.

Then I get the following error message:

"The VMware Infrastructure Web Service at "http://localhost:88/sdk" is not responding (Connection Refused)."

I noticed, that hostd isn't working... I tried to manually start it, but I got the following error message:

"/vmware-hostd: error while loading shared libraries: libvmomi.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I don' know where to look or what do to... Until today everything worked fine.. I can't find a package with this so...

My system is running Fedora 9,  Kernel 2.6.25.14-108.fc9.i586 #1 SMP

What's wrong????
